Payday Advance Centers: Make Sure You're Getting the Best
Payday advances are for short term, emergency lending. If you need to pay for utilities, rent, medical expenses, or other bills, these are useful ways that might help you out of a bad situation. But when you've decided to apply for a loan, how do you know which of the many payday advance centers to use?
Besides, checking on the fees of the payday advance centers you are considering, also check to see if it is a member of the Community Financial Services Association of America (CFSA), which was created to protect and guarantee your rights. The CFSA was established in 1999, and its purpose is to promote legislation and regulation of the cash advance industry, making sure consumers are given rights and that the payday advance centers provide the best service possible.
There are about 22,000 payday advance centers in the country. Over half belong to the CFSA partnership. Lenders who belong to this must follow the CFSA's Best Industry Practices to make sure consumers have rights, protection, and safe transactions.
Cash advance centers that belong to the CFSA display the association's decal in their windows. They also display the list of best practices, which include:
- Full disclosure: the lender has to tell the consumer all the information about fees, repayment, etc.
- Truthful advertising: they do not make any false claims about their loans, fees, or services.
- Encourage consumer responsibility: this includes providing borrowers with all the information about the loans, allowing the borrower to withdraw his loan request within a business day at no cost, and not allowing loan rollovers unless specified by state law.
Appropriate and fair collection practices: this includes not harassing, threatening, or intimidating consumers who have not paid their loans, and not threatening criminal charges against those people. Internet sites run by the cash advance centers must comply by these best practices.
If you need a loan, make sure you are getting all the protection you deserve. Choose a cash advance center that abides by these industry best practices to insure that you're receiving all the rights and protection you are entitled to.
